FAQ
Answers before you begin.
Clear answers for adults seeking a counsellor match, and for practitioners joining the HarbourMind network. HarbourMind is a matching platform—not an emergency or medical service.
Getting started
What is HarbourMind?
HarbourMind (心港) is a Hong Kong counselling matching platform. We help adults find independent, agency-reviewed counsellors through private intake and AI-assisted shortlisting. Your counsellor provides the care—not HarbourMind.
How does matching work?
You share goals, language, budget, schedule and the kind of person you feel comfortable speaking with. We prepare a small shortlist with clear reasons. Our Hong Kong agency team can review or adjust any match. You can start with a brief introduction before deciding.
Who is HarbourMind for?
Matching is for adults 18+ connected with Hong Kong. Some counsellors may practise from outside Hong Kong—profiles show jurisdiction and credentials so you can choose with full context.
Which languages are available?
Counselling languages on the platform include Cantonese, English and Mandarin. You can state your preference during intake.
What if the first match does not feel right?
Rematching is simple and judgment-free. Fit matters—tell us what did not work and we will help you try again.
Privacy & trust
Are sessions recorded or transcribed?
No. HarbourMind does not record or transcribe counselling sessions. Sensitive details are kept out of email, push notifications and analytics where practicable.
Are online sessions encrypted?
Yes—session audio/video is designed to travel over encrypted transport (industry-standard WebRTC security such as DTLS-SRTP) through an approved telehealth media provider. Media is not meant to pass through HarbourMind’s own application servers, and recording/transcription stay off by default. Production uses a managed secure media path (selective forwarding), not an open unencrypted stream; it is not a promise of absolute secrecy against every device or network risk. See telehealth consent and our Privacy policy.
Is messaging end-to-end encrypted so only we can read it?
In-app operational messages are protected with encryption in transit and encrypted storage with tightly controlled access. HarbourMind is a matching platform with safety and support duties, so this is not marketed as classic peer-to-peer end-to-end encryption where only the two devices hold the keys. Do not put highly sensitive clinical detail in email or WhatsApp support channels.
What happens to my intake answers?
Intake is used to shortlist and support matching. Free-text can be organised with AI assist for matching only—AI does not diagnose you or decide your next step. See our Privacy policy for how personal data is handled.
Is a HarbourMind counsellor “licensed” in Hong Kong?
In Hong Kong, “counsellor” is not a statutory licensed title. We agency-review credentials (such as degrees, memberships, insurance, supervision and scope) before listing. Profiles show what was checked—and when. That review is not a government licence.
Who provides the counselling?
Independent counsellors provide the counselling. The therapeutic relationship is between you and your counsellor. HarbourMind provides matching, scheduling, consent and secure online session tools as a platform.
Do you use cookies or analytics?
Necessary cookies run the site. With your consent, we may use Google Analytics for aggregate traffic only—not to sell counselling content to advertisers. You can change cookie settings in the footer anytime.
Fees & sessions
What do clients pay?
You pay the counsellor’s listed session fee in HKD. HarbourMind’s about 15% application fee is taken from that amount—not added on top—so the total you authorise is the fee you already see.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancel 24 hours or more before the session for a full refund. Cancel within 24 hours or miss the session and the fee is not refunded under the launch policy. If your counsellor cancels, or a platform/payment issue prevents the session, you get a full refund or a free rebook. Checkout and Terms will show the same wording.
How do I pay?
When checkout goes live, payment will run through a licensed provider (for example card or FPS options they support). HarbourMind does not hold a client wallet balance. Availability depends on the provider and beta stage.
Where do sessions happen?
Secure online sessions are available through the HarbourMind mobile app. Details for each booking appear in the app after matching and scheduling.
For counsellors
How do I join the counsellor network?
Apply via the counsellor application form. Our agency reviews credentials and scope before any profile is listed. Submitting the form does not create a live account immediately—we follow up by email.
How are fees shared with counsellors?
From each paid session, about 15% supports matching, agency review, secure sessions and support. About 85% goes to the counsellor. Example: listed fee HKD 1,000 → client pays HKD 1,000; about HKD 850 to the counsellor.
Who owns the counselling relationship?
You do. HarbourMind is the matching and booking platform. Clinical responsibility and the counselling relationship remain with the independent counsellor.
What does agency review include?
Before listing, we review items such as qualifications, memberships, insurance, supervision and stated scope of practice. Review is an agency check, not a government licence, and profiles should present credentials accurately.
How do payouts work?
Production payouts are designed to run through a licensed marketplace / destination-charge model so HarbourMind does not hold counsellor wallet balances. Exact timing and methods depend on the approved payment provider.
Safety & limits
Is HarbourMind an emergency service?
No. Messages are not monitored continuously. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 999 in Hong Kong (or your local emergency number).
Is the product fully launched?
HarbourMind is currently a supervised Hong Kong beta. Features, counsellor availability and payment options may change as we learn. Material updates will be reflected on the site and in the app.
How can I contact the team?
Use the contact form, WhatsApp, or email listed in the site footer. For privacy requests, use the addresses in our Privacy policy.
